Amniocentesis
Amniocentesis is prenatal diagnostic procedure used to determine whether an unborn baby has birth or genetic defects. The procedure utilizes a needle to extract a sample of amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus.
This sample is then analyzed for chromosome abnormalities, neural tube defects(NTD), and other possible disorders.
The procedure is recommended and performed between the 14 and 22 post-menstrual weeks of pregnancy.
